The Moses Automotive Network that exists today in West Virginia began in Welch, West Virginia in 1947. Jack Moses, after finishing serving our country in World War II, opened a Lincoln-Mercury dealership, along with two partners, on April 1st, 1947. In 1949, Mr. Moses bought the Ford dealership in Welch, selling his original interest in the Lincoln-Mercury store. The opportunity arose to purchase another Ford dealership in Ashland, Kentucky and Mr. Moses sold the Welch store to take advantage of this opportunity.
In 1955, the death of Willy Green, the Huntington Pontiac dealer, allowed Mr. Moses with the chance to return to Huntington, his birthplace and the location of his college years at Marshall University. The dealership was located downtown on 4th Avenue, where the business continued to succeed. The Volkswagen franchise was added in January of 1962.In 1970, Mr. Moses took a chance and moved his store out of the city and built new buildings to house his Pontiac and Volkswagen franchises. Very little was located surrounding the current location at 5200 Rt. 60 E then, but now the Pontiac-Buick-GMC-Nissan-Mitsubishi-Isuzu store and original AutoMall is a testament to wisdom of that move.
The company continued to expand in the 90's with the purchasing of two stores. Harvey Shreve Ford and BMW joined the Moses family in 1991 (the name was changed to Moses in 1996) with Mr. Moses' youngest son, Steve, managing. Three years later, 1994, Moses Honda was opened with Mr. Moses' only daughter, Barbara, to oversee it. The Volkswagen franchise experienced its second move in the family, joining Honda at the Barboursville location in 1997.
The Huntington AutoMall store completed its franchise line-up with the additions of Buick in November of 1996 and GMC Trucks in January of 2000 and Cadillac in August of 2003.
Moses AutoMall of Huntington is now under the leadership of a 3rd generation of the Moses family, Jackson "Jason" F. Moses III, who took over for his father Jack Moses II.
In 2020, Moses AutoMall of Huntington commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the dealership at its current location. As part of that commemoration, the AutoMall gave specially minted, individually numbered commemorative coins to customers, partners, and friends of the dealership. On December 31st, Jason Moses appeared on WSAZ to draw a random number. The lucky owner of the coin with the matching number won a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab.
In April, 2022, Moses AutoMall of Huntington, along with all of the the dealerships of the Moses Automotive Network celebrate the 75th Anniversary of when Jack Moses first opened his dealership in Welch, WV
The Moses Automotive network has seen many changes over the years through expansion, brand acquisition, and an ever growing customer base. But one thing that has not changed in 75 years, the Moses family is committed to providing excellence in vehicle sales, service, and support to it’s customers.
